Here’s how to create a wellness nook in your rental without violating lease agreements or spending a fortune.

1. Choose the right spot

Find a quiet corner of your home that feels secluded and peaceful. Even a small, underutilised area - like a corner of your bedroom, a section of your living room, or a spot by a window - can work. Look for natural light to make the space feel more inviting, but if that’s not possible, a soft lamp or string lights can help set the mood.

2. Define the space

To create a sense of calm, keep the area free of clutter. Use simple dividers like a folding screen, a tall shelf, or even a strategically placed curtain to separate the nook from the rest of the room. A soft area rug or floor cushion can also help visually define the space.


3. Incorporate comfort

4. Embrace calming colours

Since most rentals restrict painting walls, use fabric wall hangings to introduce colour and pattern without causing damage.

5. Enhance ambiance 

Soft, diffused lighting creates a calming atmosphere. Use floor lamps, Himalayan salt lamps, or string lights for a warm glow. Incorporate aromatherapy with a small essential oil diffuser or wax melts.


6. Add natural elements

Bringing nature into your wellness nook can have a grounding effect. Incorporate plants like peace lilies, snake plants, or small succulents, which thrive indoors and require minimal maintenance. If space is limited, consider hanging planters or a small tabletop terrarium.

7. Personalise your space

Add personal touches that inspire tranquility and positivity. This could be:

  • A small shelf for your favourite books or journals.

  • A tray for crystals, incense, or other meaningful objects.

8. Set the tone 

Sound plays a big role in creating a relaxing environment. Consider:
